It’s been nearly 75 years since he left us but we are forever trapped by the sorcery of his genius. If you are Bengali and born with even a tiny bit of affection for any form of art, you must have found yourself admiring, interpreting, re-interpreting, deconstructing his creations or merely being swept off by ineluctable tugs of personal emotions. You must have barricaded yourself from the entire world to explore and to find a harbor in Rabindranath Tagore’s work.
His 155th Birthday was celebrated all across Bengal and in every part of the world where Bengalis dwell. None of these celebrations were as unique as the Rabindra Jayanti celebration by Phoenix The Sun Bird and Songlap in association with Kolkata Metro Rail. The A.C. metro started from Kavi Subhash Metro station at 9:30 am packed with artists from different spectrum, and onlookers. The journey was filled with songs, poetry, music and celebrations till Noapara. Songlap entertained the crowd with their performances there and the train came back to Gitanjali metro station for another course of Rabindra Jayanti celebration. All in all, it was a once in a lifetime experience for the participants and if you want be a part of this next time, there is a 364 day wait in store for you.
