Early reviews of Suicide Squad are not looking too great. It is being called messy, unclear and overall just bad. But is it really all that bad? The answer is no. So, if you have been swayed into believing it is not a good enough film to watch in a theatre, here I am giving you a five reasons to watch Suicide Squad ASAP.
The Harley Quinn and Joker romance is portrayed in a fantastic fashion. The scenes where they are together are as crazy as both their brains combined. There are quick cut sequences interspersed with neon colours, giving a visual representation to how someone who has totally lost their mind and is also in love would think of things.
The women in the film steal the show. Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Enchantress – God, what power! There are no words for the brilliant acting done by these three women, Viola Davis being my absolute favourite. Even Katana with her blade, just wow.
This film is gripping and fun to the point that when the (forced) interval takes place, a little part of you will scream, “NOOOOOOO!” There may be allegations about the presence of too many characters and not enough time for them to be developed, but please, there are some movies where the plot doesn’t depend on character development. Sometimes it is more than enough to watch a movie purely for its entertainment value, and this film has a lot of it! Compared to other DC films, the atmosphere is not so sullen in this one, even though they are the Suicide Squad.
The shots where all the members of the Suicide Squad are introduced are seriously interesting. They are quick with giving the background info, so it doesn’t take too long for the action to begin. And there is this one shot dedicated to every member of the team where some trivia about the characters is given on the screen in the form of bullet points. Be quick to read those, because you might learn some fun stuff.
There is a post-credit sequence where Bruce Wayne and Amanda Waller have a little discussion. If you want to catch that interaction and get the connection with Justice League, stay put in your seats after the movie ends. It is always a treat to watch Ben Affleck. And you will catch the man in his suit, along with a little bit of Flash in the movie.
