2015 is a year of insane amounts of entertainment for all movie buffs. Long awaited novel adaptations, eagerly expected installments in beloved movie franchises, big-budget films, blockbusters, Oscar darlings – this year is full of them all! I don’t know what it is about this year, but, I have a feeling my eyes are going to be pampered into a state of euphoria.
And may Zeus strike me down with his lightning – and may it be displayed to the world via the stunning visual effects that I am witnessing in the films this year – if I do not share it with you all. As I don’t want to burden you with the excitement of the entire year (and also because I believe in a little bit of mystery), there will be monthly updates on the amazing films you are to expect in the days to come.
This is the September Edition. *drumrolls*
Johnny Depp is the Bad Ass!
Let’s highlight the reason (in singular) that you need to watch this movie – Johnny Depp plays the role of a real-life sociopath, Whitey Bulgar (the notorious leader of the Winter Hill Gang) in the 70s and he is scary and magnetic at the same time. Not that the other cast members in the film are any less grasping. Joel Edgerton plays the role of Bulgar’s crony and Benedict Cumberbatch is Bulgar’s brother with a political career. The movie even features Dakota Johnson (of the 50 Shades of Grey fame).
Developed over a decade culminating in the capture of the boss in 2011 – after being featured in FBI’s Most Wanted list for 12 whole years – this film involves mafiagiri, corruption, brutally thrilling crimes, bloodshed and everything you would want in a good gangster film. It is already rumoured to have a firm footing in the coming awards season. So, honestly, why wait till then? Catch it in the theatre and be awed by the charismatic force of what promises to be a brilliant and kick-ass film.
Release Date – September 25 (India)
Another freaky production by M.Night Shyamalan
M. Night Shyamalan is known for his weird movies and mind-numbing twists, take The Sixth Sense for example. But, this film is seemingly weirder than most. The film st
arts with an innocent plotline. Two siblings go to visit their grandparents at their remote farm for a week. Initially, they believe that their grandparents are a bit strange, but then they begin to feel increasingly disturbed by the sinister happenings. How would you feel if you were asked to not come out of your room after 9:30?
Bloomhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) have a very straightforward attitude towards horror flicks, which when teamed with the magical realism brought on the screen by Shyamalan will give you a real gaping and screaming film-watching experience. If you are into this stuff, this is not to be missed.

“Human beings aren’t built to function at the cruising altitude of a 747.”
Based on a real life expedition that took place back in 1996, this film is an obvious disaster movie. There are a lot of characters portraying the lives of real people and our attention is spread across all of them; we don’t know who to root for, or why things take the turn that they do – exactly like it happens in real life. Set in a world where reaching the summit of Everest is no longer a heroic mission but a commercial business, this film is a thrilling adventure that will give the audience the experience of actually going through with the unnatural action of scaling the Everest. Don’t miss it if you can help it!
