Are you looking for something to watch this Weekend?
“Paris was a universe whole and entire unto herself, hollowed and fashioned by history; so she seemed in this age of Napoleon III with her towering buildings, her massive cathedrals, her grand boulevards and ancient winding medieval streets–as vast and indestructible as nature itself. All was embraced by her, by her volatile and enchanted populace thronging the galleries, the theaters, the cafes, giving birth over and over to genius and sanctity, philosophy and war, frivolity and the finest art; so it seemed that if all the world outside her were to sink into darkness, what was fine, what was beautiful, what was essential might there still come to its finest flower. Even the majestic trees that graced and sheltered her streets were attuned to her–and the waters of the Seine, contained and beautiful as they wound through her heart; so that the earth on that spot, so shaped by blood and consciousness, had ceased to be the earth and had become Paris.”
by Anne Rice in Interview with the Vampire
What’s it about?
A difficult childhood turned Amelie Poulain into a complete introvert. She never felt the need of making contact with anyone outside the small circle of people that she must interact with to live. One day, she was in the bathroom preparing to sleep. The television in her room broke a story of a shocking death and she dropped the glass cap of the bottle she was holding in surprise. That cap rolled on the ground and changed her life into a beautiful story.

What’s it about?
There are an uncountable number of love stories in the world. But legends are always about a certain kind of love – the love that ends in death.
It’s a story of a time when the Parisian air was filled with the smell of the French Revolution. You see a writer in front of a window submerged in alcohol-induced passion typing his love story. He tells you that the ‘love of his life’ just ended with the death of his beautiful Satine. Then, you are transported to a night club called ‘Moulin Rouge’ and you meet the lead courtesan Satine. And in the darkness of prostitution, a musical love story blooms with a blast of color and beauty.
Why you should watch it?
If it was upon the lovers, every romance story would have had a happy ending. But, sooner or later, society will eventually start influencing every love story. Still, the lovers fight; they fight to be together with their all. But, you can’t really fight against fate, can you?
If you have ever felt this way, this movie is going to open up some wounds. But if you have loved, I am sure you will enjoy the bleeding.
Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor actually sang all their songs in the movie and you will be amazed to hear how good they are as singers besides being top notch actors.

Why you should watch it?
It’s not always about watching something extraordinary and path-breaking. Sometimes, you just want to stare at the screen and see something very simple yet beautiful. Complications are present all around you and an escape-route to the uncomplicated world of old-school romantic comedies should not be missed when provided.
It is a treat to watch love-struck Audrey Hepburn fighting her urge to surrender to a man who, she knows, will leave her. But, love is not always about “forever”. Sometimes, it’s just about a little magical spell that stays with you as long as you breathe.
